Well, guys, we are now entering into the festive days of the holiday season: family, friends, food, and gifts! Put all these wonderful things together at the same time and you may experience STRESS! Hopefully, by now, when you think of stress you recognize inflammation. Now, let’s talk about the anti-inflammatory benefits of Turmeric.

Then, look for ways to decrease inflammatory effects on your body. May I introduce the anti-inflammatory benefits of Turmeric! Yes, if you feel aches and pains due to the stress of the holidays, you may want to reach for Ibuprofen.

But, nature has a powerful spice that will fight inflammation without the risks. Similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,(NSAIDs), is curcumin which is found in ground Turmeric powder.

The Gold of Turmeric – Curcumin

Turmeric-Curcumin has been used for centuries in eastern medicine. It’s been used to treat chronic conditions such as arthritis. There are promising studies on its use in cancer treatment. This is because of its anti-inflammatory action.

Also, it speeds up recovery from inflammation and soreness you get from your workouts. This miracle spice has antioxidant effects too. This means that it has cell-protecting properties.

Unfortunately, taking Curcumin or Turmeric on its own is not very effective. Turmeric supplements are eliminated by the body before being helpful in most cases. This is because the body can’t absorb it without help.

Fresh black pepper is key!

Yes, black pepper! To increase absorption, we add fresh ground black pepper which has the ingredient Piperine. This active agent of black pepper increases the body’s ability to use curcumin by 2000%.

Fortunately, the combination can be used in a variety of recipes. This makes adding this amazing gift of medicinal nature to your daily life much easier. It is used in sauces, chips, butter, and coloring agents. It can be added to many recipes with an Indian flare.

But, if you want to use this marvel as a daily supplement you can. You can have it at hand at all times. Interestingly, it’s a little recipe is known as Golden Paste. So, I first began learning of Golden Paste when searching for ways to give relief to my arthritic fur baby!

Golden Paste

Yep, my first attempts at making Golden Pasted were to decrease the pain my dear Zoe was feeling. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see her in less pain! As a bonus, her movement improved after just one use!

Turmeric to treat allergy rashes
Sherlock: grass allergy

Since then, I have used it to treat infections, rashes, arthritis, and joint injuries. It works beautifully!

Luckily, you can find all sorts of recipes online with different ingredients added. I have made my version in which I added cinnamon and honey. This made it much tastier so that my puppers won’t refuse it!

Shawn’s Golden Paste recipe

  • 1 cup turmeric powder
  • 2 cup filtered water
  • ½ cup organic coconut oil
  • 1 tbs fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tbs cinnamon powder
  • 2 tbs raw, unfiltered honey  (or more to taste)

Mix the turmeric with the water in a pan. Stir the liquid on medium/low heat for 7 to 10 minutes. Once thickened, add pepper, oil, cinnamon, and honey. Place in jar with lid and store in the fridge.

*When supplementing a pet diet, add ½ tsp paste per 10 pounds of body weight for your dog/cat.
